Maine
Deer Hunting
Our
deer hunts are all on private land. NO fences here!
Most of our hunts are from treestands. Some are over
food plots, some are over game trails. Our woods are
very thick "spot-n-stalk" is very difficult. Sitting
has been the most productive.
In
Maine we have a bucks only law, with Does being by permit
only. Doe permits are drawn in mid summer. Check out
the Maine
Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife web
site, for exact dates. We hunt zones 14 and zone 17.
Bowhunters may shoot either sex deer. Maine's Buck law
requires the deer to have at least 1 antler 3 inches
long. On our property we have a 6 point rule.
Most
shots are less than 100 yards, with the average being
around 50. Depending on you peference I will take you
to your stand, or you are welcome to drive yourself.
Our
whitetail deer herd is very healthy in Maine. Our does
average about 100-140 pounds. Our bucks average weight
is 150-200 pounds. We do get some in the 200-250 range
each year. The B & C average is in the 120-140 area.
And the big ones are out there!
