Black Bear Hunting
Black
Bear Hunts: 5 days - Monday through Friday
We
start baiting 30 days before the black bear hunting
season starts. Every other day the sites are baited,
this keeps the bears from roaming and attracts roaming
bears. We only hunt our sites one week per year. This
means you won't be sitting at a stand somebody already
sat at. We also offer handicap accessible hunts over
bait, with a brand new handicap accessible camp. Contact
us for more information.
Our
hunts are from treestands or ground blinds, with the
average shot at under 40 yards. Our hunting area encompasses
over 50 square miles.
Scent
is very important. If possible a scent elimination system
is recommended (scent loc or scent blocker). A bear
cannot see well, but sure can smell and hear very well.
It is very important that YOU do not not go near the
bait, your scent may make the bear change its routine.
Each stand has multiple bears, the smaller bears come
in first. The larger more aggressive bears will come
in closer to dark. It is very important to sit right
until the end of legal hunting.
How
we hunt. I will take you to and from your hunting location.
We will leave camp around 1 pm. This will give you about
6-7 hours on stand. The best time is the last hour,
just like deer hunting - BUT they may appear at any
time, so be ready!
The
mornings are yours to do as you please; sleep in or
check out the local communities.
Once
you have shot your bear, we will skin it out and freeze
it for you. We have a local taxidermy that will mount
it for you at a reasonable cost if you wish.
Our
stands are on private land and we have to pay for each
stand. If you shoot and wound a bear, and we do not
find it after a serious search, you are welcome to continue
hunting that stand. If you wish to be moved to another
stand location, you will be charged $150 and must be
paid before moving. If I choose to move you, there will
be no extra charge.
Shot
placement is very important, the heart and lungs are
the best area to hit. Make sure you take your time and
make a good shot. I know we all get excited, but a bear
is one of the toughest animals you'll ever hunt. Any
bear is legal BUT we try not to shoot any sows and cubs.
I will explain what to look for when you arrive at camp.
